How Residential HVAC Systems Work

Residential HVAC system

Most homeowners don’t bother understanding how their HVAC system works, as long as it keeps them comfortable they don’t think about its maintenance. However, if you want to protect your investment and keep your HVAC system efficient and in great condition, it’s important to understand how your unit works.

As the experts in HVAC installation in Braselton, GA, Clark’s Heating & Air is dedicated to providing quality HVAC services. We explain how HVAC systems work below:

How Your HVAC System Works

Liquid expands into gas and absorbs heat from its surroundings to operate an air conditioner. To convert warm air to cold air, refrigerant is essential. The AC condenser coil in the outside unit transfers refrigerant towards the evaporator coil into the indoor unit. Regular HVAC maintenance is crucial in keeping the condenser coil working properly.

When you switch on the air conditioning unit, a heated, high-pressure gas called refrigerant is pressed into low-pressure refrigerant gas to begin the cooling cycle. The condenser coils are where the compressed gas is condensed into a high-pressure fluid. The condenser fan also blows over the coils, dispersing extra heat into the atmosphere.

Once in the evaporator coil, this low-pressure liquid cools and transforms into a low-pressure vaporized gas. The pressure is then reduced when the heated fluid travels through an expansion valve. The cold air circulated through the ductwork and into your house is left behind when it collects heat from the ambient air. The heat that the house’s air absorbs is sent back to the compressor, where it is released to the outside, and the cycle repeats itself. Keep your unit running efficiently with regular HVAC services.
